Maccaferri Indonesia and HATTI Hold Seminar on Sustainable Geotechnical Solutions in Pekanbaru
Pekanbaru, Indonesia – Maccaferri Indonesia, in collaboration with the Indonesian Society for Geotechnical Engineering (HATTI), held a seminar in Pekanbaru to explore sustainable and environmentally friendly geotechnical solutions. The event highlighted the importance of integrating innovation, engineering expertise, and environmental awareness in addressing Indonesia’s infrastructure challenges.
Responding to Infrastructure and Environmental Challenges
Indonesia continues to face complex geotechnical challenges due to rapid urban development, climate change, and the country’s diverse geological conditions. Issues such as slope instability, erosion, and land reinforcement are increasingly pressing, especially in areas vulnerable to flooding and landslides. The seminar in Pekanbaru provided a timely platform to discuss these issues. Experts, academics, government representatives, and industry professionals attended to exchange knowledge and explore strategies to strengthen infrastructure while reducing ecological impact.
“Our goal is to create solutions that don’t just solve today’s problems but also protect future generations” said Angkur Agarwal, Business Development Head.
Showcasing Practical and Sustainable Solutions
Maccaferri presented its range of sustainable systems, including erosion control solutions, asphalt pavement reinforcement, and the Paramesh® system for Retaining Walls and Soil Reinforcement. These solutions have been widely applied to protect riverbanks, stabilize slopes, and support infrastructure development in challenging ground conditions.
These solutions were presented through case studies that showcased their effectiveness in various infrastructure projects, including road construction, riverbank protection, and land reclamation. The presentations emphasized not only the technical performance of these systems, but also their environmental benefits.
Collaboration for Smarter Infrastructure
HATTI emphasized that sustainable infrastructure development cannot be achieved in isolation. Collaboration between professional societies, solution providers, government, and academia is vital to ensure that engineering practices align with both safety standards and environmental goals. By working together, we can encourage the adoption of technologies that improve resilience while reducing environmental impact.
The seminar also encouraged dialogue between young engineers and experienced professionals, underscoring the importance of capacity building in advancing geotechnical engineering across Indonesia.
Looking Ahead
The collaboration between Maccaferri Indonesia and HATTI reflects a growing commitment within the engineering sector to prioritize sustainability. With infrastructure needs continuing to grow across Indonesia, the adoption of eco-friendly geotechnical solutions will play a key role in ensuring long-term resilience and safety.
Maccaferri and HATTI are helping to set a benchmark for future projects that balance performance with environmental responsibility. As Indonesia continues to build, seminars like this provide critical opportunities for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and the promotion of solutions that can safeguard both infrastructure and the natural environment.
