Our team will present defence and security solutions in Abidjan from January 21st to 24th 2019.
Extremely rich in natural resources, Africa has to counter major threats that create obstacles to the continent’s further development. The Shield Africa exhibition brings together the main actors in the Defence and Security sectors. We have chosen to exhibit and present our Defencell® MAC and MacSafe™ solutions that have been designed for these sectors.
The 2019 Shield Africa We have been present for many years in Africa’s military arena and have chosen to exhibit our Defencell® MAC and MacSafe™ solutions at this year’s event, which offers institutional and private decision-makers a unique opportunity to exchange ideas on how to mitigate threats to Africa’s development.
The main theme of the 2019 Shield Africa exhibition is “Secured and regulated Land, Sea and Air Borders, conditions for the development of Africa”. It will help prepare future homeland security and defence to shape a safer Africa.
Our Defencell® MAC is a multicellular structure made of welded-wire mesh. Available in a range of sizes, Defencell® MAC can be rapidly deployed and is filled on site with available material to provide a modular barrier. Units can be stacked to form taller structures as needed to protect bases, camps, depots, vehicles or other infrastructure.
This Maccaferri solution has been chosen by armies around the world, including in the USA, Belgium, Italy, ONU, UK, Canada, Sweden, France, Burkina Faso, Germany, OTAN, QATAR, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.
MacSafe™ was developed after the terrorist attack in Nice to prevent vehicle intrusion on the Promenade des Anglais. Following this project, the city of Monaco also decided to install MacSafe™ at two sensitive locations.
MacSafe™ consists of two high-tensile steel cables supported on tubular steel posts and anchored at each end with our patented energy dissipation system. The posts are secured to ground foundations and all external fixings are designed to prevent them from being easily removed. The force of the vehicle impact is distributed through the cables and posts and absorbed within the patented energy dissipators. The energy is absorbed through compressive deformation and not by friction. This ensures better and more reliable performance throughout the long-life of the barrier. MacSafe™’s impact is minimal on the surrounding environment and can easily be removed in times of low-security risk. This solution can be adapted to African countries where there is a risk of terrorist attack.
