Our products were chosen to waterproof the landfill’s body
The managing of waste in Castellón’s southern regions, and north of Valencia, used to depend to a large degree on expensive external treatment services. The decision was therefore taken to design a Project including enlarging the existing non-hazardous waste landfill together with constructing a new waste treatment plant. The new landfill arrangements will have a total storage capacity of 1,425,000 m3, and the plant will be capable of treating up to 120,000 tons of waste per year.
Castellón’s southern regions and the area of Spain north of Valencia, were not self-sufficient in waste management, creating a number of disadvantages. The service was expensive, and the nearby regions absorbing the waste generated were overexploited. As a result a Project was designed to better eliminate urban waste.
Located in Algímia de Alfara, the project took into account the enlargement of the existing waste landfill together with the construction of a plant for the treatment of waste. This included highly efficient, leading-edge environmental protection systems. We supplied most of the materials used for the waterproofing of the landfill’s body. These included geodrainage, bentonite, geomembrane and provisional cover.
Installation works were carried out by BARRANCALES S.L. Currently, the controlled landfill is working normally and it is owned by the recycling company “Reciclados Palancia Belcaire” for a 20-year concession.
