Problem

A viaduct project was carried out on BR-101, in the municipality of Escada-PE, in the direction from Recife to Maceió, to create a turnaround point. During the construction of the project, the road’s profile needed to be changed, raising its levels through the construction of embankments. However, the lateral projection of the embankment would intersect with the turnaround road if the slope was not made vertical with an appropriate retaining structure.

Solution

A containment and verticalization project for the meeting embankment was implemented using the reinforced soil system with the Terramesh System wall. The solution met the recommended technical and economic criteria, with some of its key advantages being a draining face, ease of construction, and long-term performance.
