STANLEY SLOPE SLOPE EROSION PROTECTION

Problem

Stanley Slope is one of the sections along Highway 93 S just before Radium. The slope is 2:1 and has experienced erosion issues in the past. Parks Canada used a biodegradable matting to attempt to control the erosion but it did not solve the erosion challenges even over the short term, and a longer term permanent solution was required.

Solution

AECOM was appointed as Geotechnical consultant by Parks Canada and this consultant had prior experience with MacMat R from a previous project and approached Maccaferri to look into the use of MacMat R as permanent erosion solution. Maccaferri did a preliminary site visit and proposed MacMat R8G, which is a reinforced turf reinforcement mat with double twist galvanized wire mesh. The slope area was approximately 1400 square meters in extent.
