The initiative aims at raising awareness among university teachers on the varied uses of geosynthetics.
The International Geosynthetics Society (IGS) brings together individuals and corporate members from across the world
– who were involved in the design, manufacture, sales, use or testing of geotextiles, geomembranes, related products and associated technologies,
-or teach or develop research on such projects.
Operating in Brazil since 1997, IGS Brasil provides support for the “Geosynthetics in Universities” project with the purpose of training teachers to introduce the concept of geosynthetics in Brazilian universities.
One of the “Geosynthetics in Universities” initiatives is the “Educating Educators” event, whose first edition was held on July 27th and 29th at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, in the city of Belo Horizonte. The content was designed to generate awareness of the principal properties, functions, characteristic features and methodologies of geosynthetics applications. The larger goal was to increase the effectiveness of Geosynthetic products by highlighting the myriad of different situations in which these products can be used.
The professors Delma Vidal (ITA), Ennio M. Palmeira (UnB), Jorge Zornberg (Texas University) and Maria das Graças Gardoni (UFMG) instructed and helped facilitate the discussions that took place during the first event.
For the “Educating Educators” event, geosynthetics manufacturer Maccaferri spoke about cases of successful use of geosynthetics. Thanks to the versatility and commitment of Maccaferri in R&D, we are able to continuously improve products and solutions, corresponding to the most advanced technologies available worldwide.
With more than 130 years in the market and global reach, Maccaferri has practical knowledge on opportunities to spread the use of geosynthetics.
