Our MacMat®, SteelGrid®, HEA Panels and gabions were installed in the emergency slope stabilization works
Among the oldest roads in Brazil, the BR-495 has started to develop a series of slope stability problems over the years. In mid-2016, the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT) launched a procurement procedure for emergency slope stabilization works along a road stretch in the municipality of Petrópolis (RJ).
INFRA Construtora was awarded the contract and was responsible for the soil nailing works on the rock slope and the construction of a gabion retaining wall. We contributed to the success of the project by providing four of our solutions: 16,000 m² of MacMat® R – Steel geomat, 450 m² of SteelGrid® high strength mesh, 90 m² of HEA Panels and 300 m³ of gabions.
MacMat® R geocomposite is the highlight of this project. It is a geomat made from a three-dimensional matrix of UV stabilized, non-degradable synthetic fibres, heat bonded where they cross, extruded onto a double twisted steel woven mesh.
Commonly used on soil nailed slopes, it provided surface strengthening while adding a more natural and pleasing appearance to the whole slope, without interfering with the environment.
The installation was carried out quickly and efficiently.
