Engineers Andrea Balzano Pellizoni and Anna Laura L. S. Nunes at Cobramseg conducted the Course on “Pathology, diagnosis and design: Rockfalls and Debris Flow” at Cobramseg 2016
Maccaferri held a course on “pathology, diagnosis and design” Falls and Debris Flows at COBRAMSEG 2016 of which Maccaferri was one of the major sponsors
Maccaferri is one of the main sponsors of Cobramseg 2016 Maccaferri enriched the event’s program with a short course on “Pathology, diagnosis and design: Falls and Debris Flow,” that took place on October 19th in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The course was held at the School of Engineering UFMG in Belo Horizonte (MG) under the instruction of engineers Andrea Balbuzano Pelizoni–market development coordinator of the MacRo segment at Maccaferri Brazil—and Anna Laura LS Nunes, a professor at COPPE – UFRJ.
The content of the course was divided into four main areas of focus:
- Ruptures: Pathology and Diagnosis – showed that due to the changing geology of a site, it is necessary to have accurate diagnoses for choosing the best restraint.
- Solution: MacRo and rockfall soil nailing– the instructors presented the combination of Maccaferri systems used to mitigate physical risks and economic damage from rockfall.
- Rockfall Barriers against falling blocks: Dynamic and Rigid – participants were introduced to a variety of barrier options designed to contain blocks that have detached from slopes
- Debris flow protection barriers –how Maccaferri’s protection barriers can be used to reduce the damage caused by debris flows
In addition to the short course, Maccaferri actively participated in the Brazilian Congress of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (COBRAMSEG 2016) event by presenting technical papers and by receiving visitors at their booth. Considered to be the most important event of the Brazilian Geotechnical community, the event celebrated its 62nd edition this year (2016).
