The EESC-USP course was celebrated with a two-day symposium
The first postgraduate course in Geotechnical Engineering in Brazil celebrated its 40th anniversary in May 2017. The School of Engineering of Sao Carlos-USP (EESC-USP) established the Graduate Program in 1976 with the first Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering starting in 1977. Maccaferri supported the two-day symposium that marked the celebrations.
At Maccaferri, we have always shown an active interest in supporting and participating in initiatives for university students of engineering. The celebrations for the 40th anniversary of the first postgraduate course in Geotechnical Engineering of the School of Engineering of Sao Carlos-USP, Department of Geotechnical Engineering was no exception. To mark the occasion, a two-day symposium was organized with our support.
Renowned Brazilian professionals and professors were involved in a varied program of lectures. The symposium also included a roundtable, an alumni meeting and a tribute to Professor Benedito de Souza Bueno, who passed away in 2015. He founded the University’s Geosynthetics Laboratory and played a crucial role in the development of the geosynthetics industry in Brazil.
Up to 2016, the Graduate Program in Geotechnical Engineering has graduated 347 masters and 112 doctors, since the Doctoral course was implemented in 1984.
Our ongoing commitment towards the younger generations of engineering professionals leads us to pay frequent visits to Brazilian universities, giving lectures, sharing our knowledge and supporting events such as ‘Geosynthetics in Universities’, to raise awareness among university teachers on the varied uses of geosynthetics, among other initiatives.
With more than 130 years experience, we can contribute to the spreading of knowledge in geotechnical engineering and the use of geosynthetics.
