Maccaferri, as technical reference within the rockfall and natural geohazard sector.
Maccaferri participated in the 1st edition of this Course in partnership with CBMR – Brazilian Committee for Rock Mechanics with the support of ABMS – Brazilian Association of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering in all the regional centers covering the whole country.
The ABMS is composed of nine Regional Centers: RS, PR, SC, SP, RJ, MG, BA, North, Northeast and Midwest, where the courses have been held.
The theme of the second chaprter of the Course, “Stabilization Systems and Rock Slope Protection” addressed characteristics of instability of rocky slopes and the definition of solutions to mitigate the problems including the design of dynamic flexible barriers from Maccaferri.
The presentation was under the charge of Prof. Dr. Anna Laura Nunes, COPPE. UFJR (one of the most respected professionals and rock mechanics specialists from Brazil), Rockfall specialist Eng Matheus Garcia, responsible for the segment of MacRO (Rockfall protection and natural geohazard) solutions in the Technical Department of the Maccaferri Latin America.
The first course was held in São Paulo on April 28, the second in Rio de Janeiro on June 22, the third in Belo Horizonte on 24 September and most recently at the heart of Bahia on 26 October.
The September issue (Number 60) of the journal “Foundations and Geotechnical Works” carried a special report on “Itinerant I Course: Stabilization Systems and Protection of Rocky Slopes.” This story was published in the “News” section of the journal.
Also issue No.57 of the same magazine, analysed the same topic, as can been seen from the article published.
In this field Maccaferri is unique in the whole history of ABMS to hold this type of educational activity. We are pioneers! In addition, actions like this consolidate the position of Maccaferri as a technical reference in the mitigation of natural geohazards and rockfall, offering our MacRO solutions (Maccaferri Rockfall Protection) in all areas described above.
