Challenge
The Middle Beast event in Saudi Arabia required a high level of safety and risk mitigation for a dedicated warehouse used to store fireworks prior to and during the event. Given the nature of the stored materials, the key challenge was to provide effective blast and fragmentation containment, protecting nearby assets, personnel, and event infrastructure in the unlikely case of an accidental ignition. The solution needed to be rapidly deployable, adaptable to the available site layout, and capable of using locally available fill material, while ensuring a robust and proven level of protection within a limited installation timeframe.
Solution
Maccaferri’s Defencel® MAC (EBS MAC) defensive barrier system was selected to create a secure protective enclosure around the fireworks storage warehouse. The modular, multi-cellular units were quickly deployed and filled on site using local material, forming a high-mass containment barrier designed to absorb blast energy and retain debris. The Defencel MAC system provided a flexible and scalable protective solution, allowing the barrier height and thickness to be adjusted to the specific risk level and site constraints. Its proven performance in blast and force-protection applications ensured a safe, durable, and efficient protection system, meeting the stringent safety requirements of a large-scale public event such as Middle Beast.
