Named after one of the first interventions carried out by Maccaferri over 100 years ago, the Reno Mattress® is now synonymous with hydraulic works and erosion protection projects worldwide.
Our Reno Mattresses are cages, engineered from double twisted hexagonal woven steel wire mesh. Delivered flat-packed, they are assembled and then filled with stones at the project site to form flexible and permeable, monolithic structures such as river bank protection and channel linings for erosion control. Reno Mattresses are divided into uniformly partitioned cells by internal diaphragms.
Our Reno Mattresses® are made from high quality steel wire, which is heavily galvanised to provide long term corrosion protection. An additional protective polymeric coating is also applied for gabions that are to be used in more aggressive environments, or where a longer design life is required.
Our new PA6 polymer coating has been added to our range of protective coatings to offer a solution to those projects that require improved environmental and technical performance to the existing PVC and HDPE coated mesh products on the market.
Our Reno Mattresses are manufactured in our factories around the world. The management and production system in many of our factories is certified in compliance with ISO 9001.
In selected factories, the mesh is produced in compliance with CPR – Construction Product Regulation 305/2011, having EC marking in compliance with ETA-09/0414. The management and production system is certified in compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 (related to the environmental management system).

Our GeoMac units are mattress shaped cages, engineered from double twisted hexagonal woven steel wire mesh. The mattress is lined with a filter fabric is then filled on site with a stone-soil mix to provide a contained panel of topsoil, confined within a steel wire mesh cage. The lid of the mattress is also lined with an erosion control matting to prevent the contents spilling out of the unit.
GeoMac® is designed to revegetate and their principal use is on wet slopes to provide a green finish to a channel revetment. It can also be used on dry slopes to ensure a robust erosion resistant finish.
For erosion control, GeoMacs® combine engineering protection to water flow with environmental benefits.
