NİLÜFER RIVER PANAYIR LOCATION STREAM RECLAMATION FLOOD PROTECTION

Problem

Nilüfer Nilüfer River; It is a river in the Southern Marmara Section of the Marmara Region. Its length is approximately 172 km. It arises from the southern slopes of Uludağ; It flows first in the south, then in the west, and in the south-north direction on the western skirts of Uludağ. It collects the water coming from Uludağ and the Bursa Plain, joins the Susurluk (Susurlu) Stream in the north of Karacabey and pours into the Sea of Marmara from there. Waters of Nilüfer River, which has an average flow of 16 m3 / sec, rises in May and decreases to the lowest level in September. In the years when there was a lot of water, some measures were taken against floods in the Bursa Plain. Another issue that requires measures to be taken is the improvement works to be taken to solve the pollution problem in the stream bed. It has been observed that the pollution has increased considerably, especially at city crossings and industrial zones. In line with the ‘Livable Bursa’ target of the Metropolitan Municipality, BUSKİ General Directorate attaches importance to the stream cleaning and improvement works. In order to purify the Nilüfer River, which is one of the important water resources of Bursa, from its dirty appearance, it has been decided to initiate stream restoration works in the Panayır Bridge region, where Nilüfer and Deliçay rivers meet.

Çözüm

It has been deemed appropriate to make a mattress gabion coating in the canal to provide an aesthetic and natural appearance and to increase the flow capacity by eliminating the irregularities in the sudden contraction-expansion areas in the work area located in a busy location called D-575 highway (Istanbul street). Renomatress mattresses are crates with low height and wide width dimensions for surface coating formed by double twisted knitting of coated steel wire mesh against corrosion. Mattresses are laid on the application surface and a monolithic structure is obtained by connecting each unit to each other. Finally, the inside of the units is filled with quarry stone or river stone and the lids are closed and they are ready for use. As a result of the design studies, an area of approximately 20,400 m2 was covered.
