Another rockfall protection application has been completed using Maccaferri’s Steelgrid HR System
Maccaferri secured the new dam in Sourpi with a rockfall protection installation.
Techniki Thessalias SA used Maccaferri rockfall protection products to protect a new dam in Sourpi. During the works the contractor advised that minor failures and small rock falls occurred making this situation dangerous for the dam’s infrastructure.
Based on a geotechnical study, Maccaferri Hellas was asked to provide a solution using a secured drapery system. According to the minimum specifications of the project (60 kN of tensile strength), Maccaferri proposed its Steelgrid HR 100 system.
The mesh installed was Steelgrid HR 100 and the installation was completed using pretensioned anchors, and steel wire ropes (galfan). Steelgrid HR 100 is a high strength, high stiffness steel wire mesh geocomposite which is used for a broad range of applications from high strength rockfall protection draperies to low-deflection pinned drapery installations and soil slope stabilization.
The benefit of the Steelgrid HR System is that it does not require overlapping of mesh or mesh pretension. These advantages make the product easy to install and a cost-effective option.
