Maccaferri Hellas can contribute to the project with high quality products
The first phase of the Kasteli Airport tendering process has been completed. The temporary contractor is the TERNA–GMR joint venture. The second phase includes the evaluation of the offer and will be decisive for its outcome. Maccaferri Hellas is closely following the procedure and is ready to provide its environmental solutions.
The scope of the project includes: design, construction, funding, operation and maintenance of the New International Airport of Heraklion (Kasteli) in Crete, along with the necessary road connections.
As we mentioned in a previous article, Maccaferri Hellas is following the tender progress in order to assist project designers. We can provide a wide range of high quality products such as: ParaLink geogrids, Terramesh and Green Terramesh systems for the construction of reinforced embankments. For airport pavement reinforcement, our Road Mesh can almost double pavement design life. On this topic, a case history from the Wroclaw Airport in Poland is also available.
Furthermore, it is important to point out that the airport’s concession agreement will last for 37 years from the date the contract is signed.
The cost of the project is currently estimated at 850M euros with necessary expropriations reaching 100M euros, covered by the Public Investments Program. The contractor will be responsible for the funding of the project.
Maccaferri Hellas has the technical expertise and expertise to deliver to clients versatile, cost effective and environmentally sound solutions.
