Maccaferri Hellas provided gabions, which allow the protection of the river slopes and the pipeline as well
As the ground was subsiding, the risk of a serious accident in the area of Anthousa was high and both the company and the residents of the area were rightly concerned.
Maccaferri Hellas was contacted to propose solutions to this problem. As the most suitable solution for it, we proposed to protect the pipeline by using our gabions and, at the same time, to support the slope by constructing a gabion wall. Maccaferri Hellas subsequently supplied the required materials.
The heavily galvanised gabions that were utilized were sized 2 x 1 x 1 meters and 2 X 1 X 0, 5 meters and were installed rapidly, in order to provide the required stabilization and protection.
Maccaferri’s gabions were selected due to the existence of the appropriate certificates required by the national norms; CE Certification for the wire mesh for example. This also entails compliance with the ΕΤΑ (European Technical Approval) as the wire mesh is a structural system and the only way to issue the CE Certification is through testing and acquiring the ETA. Maccaferri, in addition to the CE Certification for the wire mesh, also has CE Certification for the prefabricated gabions.
In order to properly install the gabions, a special Pneumatic Spenax Tool and Galfan Spenax rings were used to assemble the gabions faster than traditional lacing techniques; the installation was done easier, faster and more effectively.
We strive to give the best technical-economical solutions while always taking into account the least environmental impact of the construction.
