Camel Bridge
Challenge
The Camel Bridge project required the construction of a mechanically stabilized earth retaining wall in a highly constrained geometry, with limited available space behind the wall and strict architectural requirements at the bridge interface. In addition to the structural demands, the wall had to accommodate additional concrete cladding on the front face, increasing loads on the facing system while maintaining alignment, durability, and aesthetic quality. Conventional retaining wall solutions were not suitable due to the narrow footprint and the need for a robust facing capable of supporting the added cladding elements.
Solution
Maccaferri’s MacRes® reinforced soil wall system was selected to address both the geometric constraints and the architectural requirements of the project. The system combines vertical precast concrete facing panels with ParaWeb® high-tenacity polyester Geostrips, providing high tensile capacity, excellent load transfer, and long-term durability. The proprietary MacRes panel-to-reinforcement connection allowed the wall to safely support the additional concrete cladding while maintaining a reduced reinforcement length, ideal for the restricted site conditions. This integrated solution delivered a structurally efficient, durable, and aesthetically compliant retaining wall system tailored to the specific demands of the Camel Bridge project.
