The “Transportation Geotechnics and Geoecology” Conference will be held at St. Petersburg State Transport University on May 17th-19th
We are delighted to announce that we will be a sponsor of the scientific and technical conference “Transportation Geotechnics and Geoecology” in St. Petersburg. We have been creating geotechnical designs and developing solutions for the transportation infrastructure sector for almost 140 years, and will be honoured to share our knowledge and technical experience at this international gathering.
The Transportation Geotechnics and Geoecology three-day conference is a priority event for specialists in the field of transport and civil engineering, for underground and geotechnical engineers, environmentalists, scientists, professors, and post-graduate students. The conference will gather participants from Russia, Europe, China, USA, Japan, and Kazakhstan and aims to exchange experiences and present the results of extensive research in the above-mentioned areas.
The development of transportation infrastructure is of primary importance as an investment, even in times of recession. Nonetheless, this sector is facing major challenges due to the increasing speed of operations and demands placed upon existing infrastructure. Today, engineers are challenged to implement solutions and use materials that improve infrastructure strength while being cost-effective, and also be efficient and safe to construct.
The conference will be dedicated to the 150th anniversary from the birth of Aleksandr Vasilyevich Liverovsky, D.Sc. in Engineering, Minister of Transport. The event will be held at the Emperor Alexander I St. Petersburg State Transport University (SPSTU), the first higher educational institution for transport and construction in Russia, which was founded by a manifesto of Alexander I in 1809. The SPSTU is organizing the event in association with the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, with the support of their Technical Committee 202, and the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS).
The Chairman of the organising committee will be Titova Tamila Semenovna, Vice-Rector of SPSTU. Railway Track and Facilities magazine will be media partner of the event.
The conference will be held in English. Key lectures will be presented by Russian and international experts. Professors from Russia, USA, China and Portugal will open the first day of the conference.
The conference programme offers more than 20 main topics. Some critical issues in the design and construction of railways and roads will be discussed during both plenary and breakout sessions. Speakers will pay particular attention to geotechnical problems and the design of roads on permafrost soils and in other challenging conditions. The issues related to the construction of roads on different subgrades, their stabilisation and interactions with engineering structures will also be covered. Furthermore, attention will be given to the use of geosynthetics, e.g. their functions, physical and mechanical properties, and application areas, in the construction and reconstruction of transport facilities.
Andrei Vladimirovich Bagin, our Deputy Technical Director, will give the presentation Engineering Protection from Dangerous Geological Processes. Protection against Rockfalls, Avalanches, and Mudflows.
