On the National Highway between Athens and Lamia, in Molos area, cracks were observed on the surface of the road due to differential settlement which had occurred. In this area the level of water table is high and also includes a lot of hot springs. Furthermore the embankments are founded on alluvial deposits, so for these reasons settlements are a frequent and an expected phenomenon.

As solution to this problem Maccaferri’s product RoadΜesh® L was applied. It is very important to rehabilitate and reinforce the pavement of the highway after cracks appearance. RoadΜesh® L is installed firstly to avoid road accidents which can occur due to poor road network maintenance and secondly, to increase the permissible speed limit of vehicles from 90 km/h to 100 km/h. The advantages of using RoadΜesh® L are: (1) Pavement deformations are limited to a strict minimum.. (2) The tensile stresses are absorbed beneath the asphalt layers. (3) Asphalt aggregates are locked into the mesh openings. (4) Increase of pavement design life (by 1.5 to 3 times). Application: Maccaferris RoadΜesh® L was installed on the road after the following steps: - Milling of the existing asphalt layer. - Placing of RoadΜesh® L. - Flattening of RoadΜesh® L. - Anchoring of RoadΜesh® L with spikes. - Applying tach coat - Placing of the Asphalt. - Compaction of Asphalt.
