Problem

The erosive action of the stream flowing parallel to kilometer 137 on the federal highway Pinotepa Nacional – Salina Cruz has caused the undermining of the embankment, risking its stability. Additionally, the urban expansion brings a larger surface covered with asphalt and concrete, which have a lower infiltration coefficient, resulting in increased hydraulic expenditure, especially during hydro-meteorological events that affect this coastal city.

Solution

To strengthen the embankment, a longitudinal containment structure was designed and built, combining gabion walls and the Terramesh System along with Paragrid 200 HF geogrids. Additionally, transverse deflector-type structures and two gabion weirs were included to control the slope of the channel. Also, an increased embedment depth was implemented for this wall, located in a high seismicity zone.
