Round Ireland Yacht Race: Maccaferri Futura conquers Ireland with silver among the Class40s and bronze in real time
Maccaferri Futura finishes second in Class40 and third overall at the Round Ireland Yacht Race — their third podium in five races this season.
Maccaferri Futura closed the Round Ireland Yacht Race as one of its leading protagonists. One of the toughest and most fascinating races in European offshore sailing, the event saw Maccaferri Futura claim second place among the Class40s and third place in real time. At around 12:50 yesterday, Luca Rosetti and his crew, composed of Pierre Brasseur and Yaël Poupon, crossed the finish line in Wicklow after 704 nautical miles around Ireland, at the end of an intense, technical race fought hard down to the final miles.
The Class40 of Officine Maccaferri, took on a race that tested every dimension of offshore sailing: endurance, clear-headedness, tactical sensitivity and the ability to read the sea. From the Irish Sea to the Atlantic coast, and then back towards Wicklow, Maccaferri Futura remained always at the heart of the battle, navigating a complex and spectacular course in which every current, every wind shift and every choice of course could change the fate of the race.
Making the challenge even more epic was the extremely tight duel with Pep Costa’s VSF Sports. It was a head-to-head battle, fierce from start to finish, in which the two boats battled with the narrowest of gaps, each trying to exploit every tactical opening. The light wind conditions turned the race into a test of nerves and precision: sailing close to the coast, being the first to catch the new breeze and choosing the most effective line required absolute focus and great composure. Maccaferri Futura kept chasing the right course until the very end, confirming its determination, solidity and outstanding competitive ability.
With this result, Maccaferri Futura secures its third podium of the season in five races, consolidating the project’s growth path and the work of the entire team. It was a race tackled with ambition, endurance and team spirit, strengthening Maccaferri Futura’s position among the protagonists of European offshore sailing and opening the way with confidence to the next challenges of the season.
