Challenge

The Harbour Department of Thailand was faced with a severe erosion on the banks of the Mae Klong ( Tamaka ) river in the year 2001. The Harbour Department wanted a solution that was : • Economical • Easy to construct • Could provide a design life of up to 40 years

Solution

The solution designed by the Harbour Department with technical assistance from Maccaferri Asia included : • Strengthening of the existing river bank by using select granular fill • Provision of Reno mattress ( partly Galfan and partly PVC coated ) 30 cm thick to protect the bank against scour.
