NGCP ROCKFALL PROTECTION IN PANGASINAN
Problem
The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) plays a crucial role in ensuring the reliable and efficient transmission of electricity across the country. With an extensive network of interconnected transmission towers and substations, NGCP facilitates the flow of electricity from generators to distribution utilities, ultimately reaching households. Maintaining the integrity of this infrastructure is of utmost importance to ensure an uninterrupted power supply, especially during natural disasters and periods of increased demand.
However, in the mountainous region of Pangasinan, NGCP faced a significant challenge. The foundation of the transmission tower had begun to erode, exposing it to the risk of collapsing. With climate change exacerbating these issues, the safety and integrity of transmission towers and associated infrastructure were under constant threat. The danger of rockfalls posed a severe risk to both the infrastructure and the continuity of power supply. Addressing this issue was crucial to safeguard the reliability of electricity transmission in the area.
Solution
To mitigate the impact of rockfalls and landslides and protect both the slope and vital infrastructure, NGCP opted for the installation of the Maccaferri Rockfall Protection System. This system provides a robust and dependable means of preventing falling rocks and soil collapses, significantly reducing the risk of damage to the transmission towers and associated infrastructure, and ensuring the safety of personnel and the public.
The Maccaferri Active Rockfall Protection system also safeguards the transmission towers from potential hazards, thereby ensuring the reliability of power supply to nearby provinces powered by the tower. This support fosters economic growth and development in the region. During calamities or adverse weather conditions, this protection is vital for maintaining essential services and enabling rapid response and rescue operations. By safeguarding the transmission infrastructure, it contributes to the continued reliability of power supply to neighboring provinces powered by the tower, further supporting economic growth and development in the region.
