Tunnel soil drainage and consolidation
Micro-perforated plastic drainage pipes for the consolidation of soils within tunnel excavations. The plastic drainage tubes are inserted into a pre-drilled hole in order to drain water from the soil behind or adjacent to the tunnel excavation.
The drainage pipes can be sheathed in a geotextile ‘sock’ to stop the perforations becoming clogged by fine material in suspension in the ground water. The drain pipes feature an innovative coupling system developed to facilitate rapid deployment.

DIGOS-MAKAR ROAD

The Department of Public Works and Highways implemented various infrastructure projects since the start of the new administration in 2016. The projects formed part of the administration's program called, "Build, Build, Build". In this, bridge construction and road widening works have been prioritized. In Mindanao, the DPWH Davao del Sur District Engineering Office allocated portion of its infrastructure budget to one of its most challenging projects to date - the rehabilitation and reconstruction of roads with slips and landslides along the Digos-Makar Road, a two-lane national highway in the mountainous portions of the city and is part of the Asian Highway, a network of highway routes of international importance within Asia and covers a total of 3,517 kilometers of roads in the Philippines. In order to achieve the rehabilitation and to upgrade the existing road to a four-lane highway as a minimum requirement for all Asian Highway-classified roads, the only viable solution at the moment was to build a retaining structure in the cliff side of the Digos-Makar road.

MARIKINA-INFANTA ROAD

The Department of Public Works & Highways (DPWH) Region IV-A Office has implemented various road widening programs along the Marikina-Infanta Highway, also known as Marcos Highway or MARILAQUE (Marikina-Rizal-Laguna-Quezon) Highway), a 110 km mountain road that connects Metro Manila with Infanta, Quezon, due to an increasing volume of traffic. A portion of the highway in San Jose, Antipolo City, Rizal required an earth retaining structure system to achieve the desired width of the widened road adjacent to a cliff. In this, an earth retaining structure system that maximizes in situ materials, economical, and easy to build was required by the DPWH engineers.

At km 24, access ramps were required for the bypass road to the town of Mejía, which would pass through agricultural land with an elevation of more than 12 m. in height. Due to the length and height of the ramp, the use of reinforced concrete was ruled out due to the high cost, and also because it was in the middle of agricultural areas, the use of embankments was not considered, with Terramesh® Verde being the best alternative.
