CONSTRUCTION OF FLOOD CONTROL STRUCTURES IN GANA, CABA, LA UNION
Challenge
The town of Caba in La Union frequently experiences severe flooding, which significantly disrupts the lives of its residents and damages infrastructure. The area’s geographic characteristics and the changing climate patterns contribute to the recurring floods, posing threats to homes, roads, and farmlands. The floods not only cause immediate damage but also pose as a long-term economic impact on the community. A sustainable and effective flood control solution is crucial to mitigate these risks and protect the local population.
Solution
To combat the persisting flooding in Caba, La Union, a strong flood control structure has been designed and implemented. The project features the construction of a concrete revetment with geotextile tubes as core materials, using Maccaferri’s Synthetic Marine Solutions. 12 Mactube units are utilized to form the core of the revetment, providing superior strength and durability. This approach was developed together with the Department of Public Works and Highways Regional Office I, and aims to significantly enhance flood protection, safeguarding the community and its infrastructure from future floods.
