Ayala Land Alviera Detention Pond
Challenge
The Ayala Alviera development in Pampanga faced increasing challenges related to stormwater management due to intense and unpredictable rainfall events. To prevent flooding in adjacent areas and protect infrastructure within the development, a detention pond was designed. However, it was critical to ensure that the stored stormwater would not infiltrate the subgrade, which could compromise the pond’s holding capacity and affect nearby structures.
Solution
To support the flood mitigation strategy of the development, Maccaferri Philippines supplied Geosynthetic Clay Liner (GCL) as the lining material for the detention pond. The GCL provided a low-permeability barrier, preventing water seepage into the subsoil and ensuring the pond maintained its designed storage capacity during peak rainfall events.
In addition to the GCL, Reno Mattresses were supplied and installed within the central diversion canal running through the detention pond. This canal facilitates the controlled movement of stormwater from the highest elevation of the basin down to the lowest outfall. The Reno Mattresses provided erosion protection, structural stability, and hydraulic efficiency, allowing water to be safely conveyed while preventing scouring of the canal bed and side slopes. Together, the use of GCL and Reno Mattresses delivered a robust and integrated solution for stormwater containment and diversion within the Ayala Alviera project.
