Officine Maccaferri expands geosynthetics offering with acquisition of Ovattificio Alpino
Officine Maccaferri S.p.A is pleased to announce that has acquired 100% of Ovattificio Alpino S.r.l., an Italian specialist in non-woven geotextiles and technical felts.
Headquartered in Cittadella, Italy, Ovattificio Alpino manufactures non-woven geotextiles and technical felts for infrastructure and environmental applications, including roadworks, water management, soil stabilisation and environmental protection. With over 50 years in the technical textiles industry, the Company serves customers across Europe, bringing specialised expertise and manufacturing capabilities that complement Maccaferri's geosynthetics business. With the addition of Ovattificio Alpino, Maccaferri expands its technology base and brings specialised non-woven manufacturing expertise in-house. The complementary capabilities can be leveraged across the Group’s customer and geographic footprint, creating opportunities to develop new applications and accelerate growth in existing and new markets. The acquisition also creates a platform for further investment in non-woven manufacturing. Maccaferri and Ovattificio Alpino are already developing a US expansion, expected to be operational by mid-2027, strengthening the Group's local manufacturing footprint and enabling it to offer a broader range of geosynthetic solutions to North American customers.
More broadly, Maccaferri is pursuing a buy-and-build strategy centered on specialist businesses and technologies in the field of adaptation engineering that can benefit from the Group’s engineering expertise, customer relationships and international presence. Today, Maccaferri operates more than 20 factories across five continents, employs over 3,000 people and serves customers in more than 130 countries. By integrating complementary capabilities into a common platform and investing in their development, the Group aims to accelerate their growth while progressively expanding its technology base and geographic reach. Since Ambienta’s investment, the Group has completed several acquisitions and has a strong pipeline of further transactions expected to close in the coming months. The expanded offering also strengthens Maccaferri’s exposure and capability towards engineering solutions supporting the transition towards more sustainable, resource-efficient and resilient infrastructure. Non-woven geotextiles, in combination with Maccaferri’s product portfolio, can improve the efficiency of construction processes, reduce material and resource requirements, support water and soil management and contribute to longer-lasting infrastructure. These applications are well positioned to benefit from growing demand for sustainable infrastructure solutions that combine performance with environmental benefits and the need to be resilient toward climate change impacts.
Stefano Susani, CEO of Officine Maccaferri, commented: “The acquisition of Ovattificio Alpino adds complementary non-woven capabilities to Maccaferri's geosynthetics offering and brings specialised manufacturing expertise into the Group. Above all, it strengthens our engineering capabilities, building on Ovattificio Alpino's well-known commitment to quality and performance. The transaction broadens our ability to address a wider range of customer needs and opens opportunities to leverage these capabilities across our international business. We are delighted to welcome Alberto Trento and the Ovattificio Alpino team to Maccaferri, and we look forward to growing the business together.”
