Challenge

In the valley Gydalen on the road RV42 between Skeide and Sveindal, the road were subjected to rockfall hazard. There was for many years a problem with stones jumping and rolling down to the road.

Solution

Maccaferri proposed a 1000 KJ barrier, the RB 1000 PLUS barrier with a better corrosion protection (95% zinc and 5% alluminium). The barrier line of installation was chosen around 7 to 10 m upslope from the road. To have an effective protection but also to minimize the costs of installation and maintenance. The installation was done in 6 lines, with a total length of 660 m.
