Rehabilitation due to Undermining in Villalobos

Problem

There is a significant erosion issue posing a risk to the stability of the area. Due to the erosion caused by a transverse culvert, the safety factors of the slope are compromised, exacerbating the situation. Additionally, the presence of a river at the base of the slope, flowing into the southern basin of Guatemala, exacerbates the problem due to flooding and ongoing rains that continue to erode the area. A protective structure with metal mesh DT is required to safeguard the integrity of the infrastructure.

Solution

An environmentally sustainable engineering solution will be implemented. Technologies such as Terramesh System and Macgrid WG will be used to stabilize the slope. Additionally, gabions will be constructed at the base of the slope to protect it from the culvert and river floods, ensuring a long-lasting and environmentally responsible solution. This comprehensive strategy not only efficiently addresses the problem but also guarantees the preservation of the environment and the well-being of over 1,500 benefiting families, demonstrating a committed approach to sustainability.
