ROCKFALL PROTECTION AT ST REGIS, LANGKAWI, KEDAH

Problem

Intergrated Nautical Resort Sdn Bhd owner of the St. Regis hotel at Langkawi, Kedah has appointed Meindhart (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd to carry out a study on the existing surrounding rock slopes around the hotel. The study shows that there is a potential risk of rock falling on to the hotel compound and necessary precautions must be taken. Maccaferri was invited to provide a suitable solution to prevent any possibility of rocks falling into designated areas.

Solution

After thorough investigations, we have concluded that the High Resistance Rockfall Barrier system, CTR 02/09B 250KJ is the solution to the matter. This system was chosen because it is cost effective and is able to sustain falling boulders up to 250 kJ. Maccaferri supplied 2 different sizes with the height of (1.5m & Spacing: 10m CTR02/09B-250kJ) and (5m & Spacing: 10m CTR02/09B-250kJ) to the respective area. The estimated total distance of the fencing is 200 metres. Maccaferri dynamic rockfall barriers are certified in accordance with the European Test and Approval Guideline 27 (ETAG 27).
