Challenge

Jalan Haji Manang is a main route located inside Kluang and the number of users has increased tremendously which often leads to traffic issues. The local authorities decided to upgrade the existing route and build another alternative route to reduce the congestions. Ground treatment and suitable retaining structure is required for the new road construction.

Solution

Maccaferri have provided site supervision for this project in which it covers a total of 2,500 metre square of area of PVC Coated Gabions and Geotextiles. The PVC Coated Gabions were installed as an embankment and toe protection for the newly build road. Geotextiles were laid behind the 3m height retaining structure to function as a separator between the compacted soils and rock fill in the gabion cage. Woven geotextiles were also used for ground improvement purposes to reduce irregular settlements of the road.
