RIVER CHANEL LINING HYDRAULICS AT KUALA KUBU BHARU, SELANGOR

Realizing the importance of having sufficient water supply for the Selangor state and to avoid any recurrence of water shortage during the drought season, the Government through Syarikat Pengeluar Air Sungai Selangor Sdn Bhd (SPLASH) has embarked on this multi-billion Sungai Selangor Phase 3 (Package 2&4) project nearby Kuala Kubu Bharu town.

The work where Maccaferri’s Reno Mattress and Gabions were used was under Stage 1, which partly consists of the realigned river canalisation works linking to the river intake structure and treatment water. Maccaferri’s Reno Mattress and Gabions were used at the upstream and downstream of the propsoed river gate and intake structures. It was constructed along Sungai Selangor and Sungai Rening before the confluence of these 2 rivers (of which downstream is named as Sungai Selangor) towards the river gate up to the enarby existing bridge as shown in diagram 1. The main reasons this Reno Mattress & Gabions structures were chosen by the consultant was to prevent river bank erosion and also beacuse of its ability to promote plant growth over structure thus increasing its durability and create a more environmentatlly friendly surroundings.
