Our first Continuous Professional Development (CPD) presentation focused on the solutions we offer to the civil and mining engineering sectors
Zimbabwe is a country blessed with a wealth of agricultural and mineral resources, but it has been waiting for many years to exploit its full potential.
Among the highest priorities of this country are enhancing the road infrastructure and water supply schemes, as well as developing sustainable mining activities. Our presentation focused on the general applications of the solutions we can provide to these sectors.
Last summer, Adriano Gilli, Managing Director for Maccaferri Africa, held the presentation “from Products to Engineered Solutions” to the members of the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers (ZIE), a multi-disciplinary Institution that covers all aspects of engineering in Zimbabwe. The presentation placed emphasis on the design of hydraulic structures, like drainage channels on expansive soils (“black cotton soils”), as well as the design of industrial foundations using the “raft” approach and our ultra-high strength geogrid, Paralink.
Consultants, contractors, clients and students attended the event, that saw an interaction between participants about topics ranging from gully erosion control, through road pavement reinforcement to industrial foundations on soft soils. Particular interest was shown in our Green Terramesh System, while costs and benefits of our solutions were also discussed in comparison to more traditional approaches, especially those where good quality, granular materials are scarce or unavailable close-by.
The next presentation will be agreed on with the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers at the end of the year or early in the New Year.
