Maccaferri Africa is participating in the two year Lean manufacturing programme, called the Workplace Challenge, a Department of Trade & Industries (DTI) initiative, managed by Productivity SA.
Lean manufacturing is the elimination of waste in all activities and operations. There have been many discussions over the years regarding Lean manufacturing and a popular misconception is that lean is suited only for manufacturing, which is not true. Lean applies in every business process. It is not a tactic or a cost reduction programme, but a way of thinking and acting for an entire business. It adopts the KAIZEN way, ensuring that there is Continuous improvement in all facets of an organisation.
The Workplace Challenge begins with the Management System workshop, which helps the organisation to make a successful transition to a culture of continuous improvement. Only when continuous improvement has become an organisation culture, in other words, “the way we do things”, can one be assured that the initiative will be sustained. Following the Management System workshop, Goal Alignment, Cleaning and Organising, Teamwork, Leadership, and well as Continuous Improvement Techniques workshops are held to ensure that all Maccaferri Africa staff understand the programme and know what is expected in order for the implementation to be successful.
As much as the Workplace Challenge is a 2 year programme, once the programme is complete, Maccaferri Africa will continue with the KAIZEN philosophy. Lean manufacturing will assist in identifying ways that we can best meet the changing demands of our customers quickly and effectively.
We would really appreciate your feedback, as our valued customer, in order for us to ensure that we continue to provide you with World Class products and services.
