Maccaferri Africa attended the GIGSA Soil Improvement presentation in New Germany, Kwa Zulu Natal on Wednesday 29th July. The Soil Improvement evening was open to all GIGSA members, with 42 members attending the session. The Soil Improvement lecture was presented by Dr Pat Naughton, a Chartered Engineer and a Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering and Design at the Institute of Technology Sligo, Ireland.
Dr Pat Naughton’s presentation examined several aspects of piled embankment design, including the transfer of the vertical embankment load onto pile caps and the capacity of the piles to resist the lateral thrust of the embankment.
