Maccaferri donates six bikes to children in Montgomery County, Maryland
Early this spring, Maccaferri turned a fun-filled team-building event into an opportunity to give back to our new community. Our team participated in the “Bike Build for Charity” program in which a day full of team building exercises culminated in assembling six bikes for deserving youngsters. At the end of the day, the children were invited to pick up their bikes in person. Having just relocated our offices to Montgomery County, Maryland, we are excited to support such a great organization and to give back to such a great community!
The joy of being a kid and being presented with your first bicycle is unmatched. New opportunities appear before you as you gain a new level of independence. Yet many children are unable to experience that joy. A group from Maccaferri recently took part in a teambuilding experience to help change that reality for a group of children associated with Family Services Inc. and Guys of Gaithersburg Middle School. The result of their efforts was a generous donation of 6 bicycles and 6 helmets to deserving children.
We selected a “Bike Build for Charity” program facilitated by Impact 4 Good, LLC., a company that runs socially responsible team building activities, to oversee their community service activity. Working in teams, participants competed in a high-paced “Tour de France” style contest to see who would emerge victorious in a set of challenges. The challenges included an Eiffel Tower block building competition, a soccer shootout, Seine River crossing, as well as a bike-themed trivia activity. After participating in the challenges, teams then started building their bikes. Teams assembled the children’s bikes along with a special “message of encouragement” to accompany each bike. Attendees were given a joyful surprise at the end of the event, as the children came to receive the bikes in person.
Jason Miller, Program Manager for GOGMS, graciously thanked the group in person at the event for their time and effort in helping to provide these much appreciated gifts to some very deserving children. He went on to say that “the young men who received these bikes and helmets were elated and shocked to be awarded such a generous donation. This event has made a lasting impact on all of my Guys, and you are a big part in making this positive change in their lives.”
We are excited to be a part of the Montgomery County community and are proud to support organizations like these that help make a difference in the lives of children in our area. See below for more information on this great organization and how you can get involved.
