The project required the construction of house foundations through excavation into underlying country rock. Site investigations revealed that the rock mass was highly fractured and overlain by unstable Glacial Till, increasing the risk of ground movement and slope instability.<\/p>\n<p>Given the site\u2019s sensitive surroundings, slope failure was not an acceptable risk. Existing residential properties were situated downslope, while a nursery school with associated gardens and outbuildings was located above the excavation area. This created a high-risk environment where ground instability could have led to serious safety, structural, and liability issues. A reliable and engineered slope stabilisation solution was therefore critical to ensure safe construction and long-term performance.<\/p>\n                    <\/div>\n                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<div class=\"container-full text-bocolor-block-green\">\n        <div class=\"row\">\n        <div class=\"col-12\">\n            <div class=\"container box-container\">\n                <div class=\"row\">\n                    <div class=\"col-12\">\n                        <h3>Solution<\/h3>\n                    <\/div>\n                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>    \n    <\/div>\n        <div class=\"row\">\n        <div class=\"col-12\">\n            <div class=\"container box-container\">\n                <div class=\"row\">\n                    <div class=\"col-12 content\">\n                        <p>To ensure effective slope stabilisation, the project designer specified Maccaferri\u2019s Steelgrid, a high-strength, high-stiffness system, as the facing element for an anchored support solution. Steelgrid combines steel wire reinforcement with geosynthetic materials, delivering enhanced durability, load-bearing capacity, and resistance to deformation, ideal for challenging ground conditions such as fractured rock and Glacial Till.<\/p>\n<p>The stabilisation system was installed by Trac International under constrained site conditions, including restricted access and a tight construction programme. Despite these challenges, the use of Steelgrid enabled efficient installation and provided a robust, long-term retaining solution.
