We are proud to have been shortlisted in the International Project of the Year and Sustainability Award categories at the awards ceremony on July 5th, 2017 in London
We are delighted to announce that Maccaferri has been shortlisted as a finalist for the 2017 Ground Engineering Awards; the flagship event for the geotechnical profession that celebrates the very best in the industry.
We are among the finalists in the Sustainability Award category for our environmentally friendly acoustic barrier protecting the new housing development owned by Bellway Holmes in Banbury from the noise of the M40 Motorway.
Reinforced with Green Terramesh and unique ParaDrain geogrids, the structure is the result of an innovative design methodology and approach for reinforced slopes which re-uses the poor and marginal site won fill material as structural backfill within the acoustic bund.
We firmly believe that engineers should be able to design reinforced soil structures using marginal, poorly drained fills, without the need to import granular material, which has both cost and environmental implications.
Marginal fills can only be used in reinforced soil structures if adequate drainage is provided. These more sustainable and environmentally friendly slopes and walls can be achieved using a geogrid like our ParaDrain ‒ known as a “drainage geogrid” ‒ that has the dual function of reinforcement and drainage in one geogrid.
The total structure is 1,300-metres long with a maximum height of 7 metres. The first stage of the works started in April 2016 and finished in September 2016, and spanned a total length of 550 metres.
Our challenging rockfall mitigation project at Saptshrungi Gad Temple [link to download of CH], India, has also been shortlisted for International Project of the Year. To protect the cable car station taking pilgrims to the temple high in the mountains, a 200m high rocky slope was covered with HEA Panels (High Energy Absorption) in conjunction with rock bolting.
On May 31st and June 1st, our senior management team will attend face-to-face presentations in London in front of the GE Awards judging panel, which comprises industry-leading clients, contractors, consultants and academics.
The awards ceremony will be held on July 5th at the London Hilton on Park Lane, bringing together industry professionals to celebrate engineering excellence.
