Architectural gabion walls complete a Bovis Homes development in Flore, Northamptonshire
The development consists of 67 plots featuring a mix of four and five bedroom properties. The gabion walls are required as an aesthetically pleasing way of retaining the higher eastern part of the site with a path through the development, children’s play area, attenuation pond and further properties on the lower western side.
We supplied and installed double twist woven mesh polymeric coated gabions, giving the structures a 120 year design life, complete with grow bags which will be planted with ivy to enable the “greening up” of the gabions. This was a key condition of planning consent and will ensure that the gabion walls blend seamlessly into the natural environment.
The use of gabions to create the retaining walls is a more environmentally friendly approach. Our first gabion structures constructed in 1893 are still operational today which is testament to the durability of the product.
