    The Highway Maintenance Division of the Department of Rural Roads (DRR) carried out the rehabilitation of asphalt pavement and safety improvements along Route AY.4031, between Highway No. 3412 and Ban Khae in Bang Ban, Sena, Phak Hai, and Pa Mok Districts, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya.<\/span><\/p>\n

    The project involved the reconstruction of the entire pavement structure \u2014 including the subbase, base, and asphalt layers \u2014 over a 6-meter-wide carriageway from Km. 10+300 to Km. 11+225 (a total length of 0.925 km), with a total budget of approximately THB 30 million.<\/span><\/p>\n

    The existing road, constructed alongside a natural canal and underlain by soft clay, faced two major issues; Stability problems<\/strong> and Settlement problems<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

    These were caused by soil movement and inadequate bearing capacity of the subgrade, resulting in cracks, potholes, and pavement deformation. Moreover, during floods, the fluctuating canal water levels – especially rapid drawdown – caused additional damage to the road, affecting local transportation, vehicle safety, and public convenience.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

    Maccaferri collaborated with the DRR\u2019s Highway Maintenance Division to design an appropriate solution. Comprehensive site data, including water levels, soil conditions, and elevation profiles, were collected to support the analysis and design process.<\/span><\/p>\n

    After assessment, Maccaferri proposed a complete reconstruction of the existing pavement structure<\/strong>, including removal of the old asphalt, base, and subbase layers, followed by the installation of two key reinforcement materials:<\/span>
    (1) High-tensile uniaxial geogrid (ParaLink) <\/strong>\u2014 installed directly on the subgrade to improve bearing capacity and prevent lateral spreading or separation of the road structure.<\/span>
    (2) Biaxial geogrid (MacGrid EG)<\/strong> \u2014 placed beneath the base layer to enhance structural stability by providing tensile strength and load distribution.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Given the soft subgrade conditions, ParaLink <\/strong>was chosen for its superior tensile strength to reinforce the foundation before embankment construction, increasing subgrade bearing capacity and preventing structural displacement. The MacGrid EG<\/strong> provided additional stability by distributing loads evenly, thereby improving overall road performance and durability.<\/span><\/p>\n

    After reinforcement, the subbase and base layers were compacted to meet the required CBR standards (CBR \u2265 25% and CBR \u2265 80% respectively), followed by the final construction of the asphalt surface.<\/span><\/p>\n

    The combination of ParaLink<\/strong> and MacGrid EG<\/strong> not only improved stability and load-bearing capacity but also significantly extended the service life of the pavement structure.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>
