Problem
Senegal, in charge of organizing the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) conference, has undertaken a series of road infrastructure projects to improve connectivity to the city of Dakar. The construction of the ring road connecting Almadies Point to the Dakar Corniche required the creation of a unique architectural support structure above the Divinity Mosque while preserving its access through two sets of integrated staircases within the structure.
Solution
The company EIFFAGE SENEGAL proposed a Terramesh System solution to integrate the structure into the protected site of Almadies Point. The design of the structure, carried out by France Maccaferri, was validated by the Apave SÃĐnÃĐgal Control Office. The structure, with a length of 480 meters and a maximum height of 17.00 meters, features a front mineral structure made of stabilized gabions with reinforcement geosynthetic anchor layers incorporated into the technical fillings. It includes an underpass for the site’s fishermen and two sets of stairs that flank the curve of the upper roundabout.
