The construction of the first 138m long and 21m high retaining wall has started
The Pristina-Hani i Elezit motorway project is a key part of Kosovo’s national transport system. The 60 km long 4-lane motorway will connect Pristina, the capital city of Kosovo, with Skopje, the capital city of Macedonia. Maccaferri Balkans signed a contract with the contractor Bechtel-Enka JV for design, supply and construction of six reinforced soil retaining structures with our innovative Terramesh® System. We are currently installing the first of the six walls (wall 015).
Our Terramesh® System was chosen by the contractor Bechtel-Enka JV and supervisor Hill International for the construction of six reinforced soil retaining structures in the Pristina-Hani i Elezit Motorway, a project of the Kosovo Ministry of Infrastructure.
This project has a vital role in the transport development of Kosovo, as it will improve the level of service and traffic safety as well as enhancing the connectivity of this region. Moreover, the travelling time between Pristina and Skopje will be significantly reduced.
In March, Maccaferri Balkans signed the contract with Bechtel-Enka to provide a complete solution, including the design, supply and construction of six retaining structures.
Our Terramesh® System is a modular system used to form rock faced reinforced soil walls. It proved to be the ideal solution for this project depending on the height of the walls and geology of the terrain. Moreover, this project further strengthens our technological partnership with Bechtel, which successfully started with their previous project in Albania.
In order to meet the geotechnical parameters required by the wall 015, Terramesh® is being used in conjunction with our high performance primary geogrids, ParaLink® 300 in the first 11 rows and ParaGrid® 150 in the upper part of the wall.
Once completed, the wall will be 138m long and 21m high and will use 950 3x2x1m Terramesh® units, 30 3x2x0.5m Terramesh® units, over 10,000 m² of ParaLink 300 and over 8,500m² of ParaGrid 150.
