A practical and economical design of the spillway was required to dissipate the flow and reduce water velocity downstream.<\/p>\n\n<p>The spillway structure was built using Maccaferri\u2019s integrated\u202fTerramesh\u00ae System, reinforced with\u202fMacGrid\u00ae Geogrids, and\u202fgabions. The Terramesh\u00ae units were mainly used for the construction of the drop structures and the side walls while the gabions were installed as the lining of the bottom landings of the spillway and as termination of the walls. The Terramesh\u00ae System units were reinforced with MacGrid\u00ae geogrids, to provide the required tensile mechanical strength of the wall structure. The MacGrid\u00ae geogrids used have a tensile strength of 100 kN\/m.<\/p>\n\n<p>The cascading steps and landing portions were capped with concrete for abrasion protection. The top portion of the spillway measures 20m wide and succeeding drop heights vary from 3m to 5m. Both Terramesh\u00ae System and gabion units were filled with head-sized boulders which are available on site.\u202fMacTex\u00ae\u202fnonwoven geotextiles were also used to line the rear of the Terramesh\u00ae units with a 150 gsm non-woven geotextile (MacTex\u00ae MXL35) to prevent migration of the backfill to the spillway structure.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div><figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-4 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1360\" height=\"1020\" data-id=\"29413\"
