Between 30 May to 1 June 2019, the Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines (ASEP) held their 19th ASEP International Convention focused on “Structural Engineering for Infrastructure Resilience”
Engineer Adrian Madrazo – Technical Business Development Manager for Double-Twist Products at Maccaferri delivered a technical paper on the Design and performance analysis of an MSE wall reinforced with bi-axial array of composite geosynthetic strips. The delivered paper was co-written by Engr. Madrazo’s colleagues, Engr. Zapanta, Jr. (Sales Manager) MEng in Civil Engineering, Major in Geotechnical Engineering from University of Tokyo and Engr. Joely Apostol, BS Civil Engineering – University of the Philippines. Adrian Madrazo holds an MS in Civil Engineering majoring in Geotechnical Engineering from the National Taiwan University.
The delivered paper focused on both the design and performance analysis of a 12.5m-high wall reinforced with Maccaferri’s high performance ParaGrid geosynthetic strips made of high tenacity polyester yarns and encased with a polyethylene coating. Specific reference was made in the paper to the favorable creep performance of the ParaGrid polyester yarns guaranteeing strength over a design period of 100 to 120 years.
Delivery of a technical paper of this nature reflects well on Maccaferri which is able to field a team of highly qualified, internationally educated engineers who are considered authorities in their respective fields. The paper was well received by an audience of around 150 persons who came from both the private sector, comprising of several design consultancies and the government sector, with representatives from the Department of Public Works and Highways.
