A series of ‘Lunch & Learn Programs’ (L&L) with engineering design/consultancy firms and major construction companies has been launched
We have launched ‘Lunch & Learn Programs’ to promote higher levels of technical awareness of our various products and to enhance strong working relationships with industry partners.
We have recently launched a ‘Lunch & Learn’ Program seeking to promote higher levels of technical awareness of our various products and to further enhance strong working relationships with industry partners. Our presentations are conducted for an hour to an hour-and-a-half in the middle of the day while attendees enjoy a free ‘brown-bag’ lunch.
The first L&L was delivered to a leading engineering consultancy and addressed our rockfall protection systems, geosynthetics and design guidelines on mechanically stabilized earth walls (MSE Walls) and reinforced soil slopes (RS Slopes).
Engr. Byron Soliman, Maccaferri’s Business Development and Technical Manager for Double-Twist Products presented our range of passive and active rockfall prevention and protection systems. These included simple drapery, secured drapery, rockfall embankments and barriers.
The second part of the program was delivered by MPI’s Business Development & Technical Manager for Geosynthetics, Engr. Adrian Madrazo. He addressed all major types of geosynthetics describing function and applications.
Participants showed particular interest in the session covering MSE walls and RS slopes. Engr. Madrazo answered a number of pertinent questions on the design of earth retaining structures for slope stabilization and protection. Engineers from the consultant’s Civil Works and Structural Department considered program content to be of very high value to young engineers on their teams.
Two weeks later, a similar Lunch & Learn program was delivered to a major land and property developer with whom we have worked closely for over two decades. In addition to the previously mentioned topics, MPI was fortunate to have Derek Oosterhouse of Profile Products LLC (USA). He was able to deliver a highly informative and engaging talk on the emerging technology of hydroseeding as an effective erosion control solution. Discussing our MacFlex and MacGanics hydraulically applied mulch products, Mr. Oosterhouse explained how both products work in promoting erosion control and improving the quality of depleted soils with low organic matter. The presentation emphasized the importance of establishing sustainable vegetation as the best means of providing erosion control.
Attending engineers came from the Planning and Engineering Department, Quality Assurance Unit, Bids and Awards Department, and Take Over Unit.
The success of this program cannot be understated. We currently have invitations from a number of other companies. We hear from our clients that their engineers benefit from exposure to new technologies and application of innovative products in the building, construction and infrastructure industries. We are currently organising similar sessions for the Department of Public Works & Highways (DPWH) focusing on our products for infrastructure and urban development.
