Maccaferri participated in the 24th Mining Symposium in Davao City and the 2nd Bicol Mining Summit
The mining industry has always been a major partner of Maccaferri in the Philippines and we participate in many of the exhibitions, technical conventions and symposiums conducted for the industry each year. Recently, we have participated in mining exhibitions and symposiums in both Davao and Bicol showcasing products of specific interest to the mining community.
The Philippine mining industry is currently undergoing close scrutiny. The former Secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has raised environmental awareness of mining activities. In this climate, the 24th Mining Symposium was held in the SMX Convention Center, SM Lanang, Davao City on June 22-24, 2017.
The event, organized by the Mindanao Association of Mining Engineers (MAEM) focused on the equitable and responsible utilization of mineral resources in the Philippines examining the right tools to balance economic and environmental sustainability. Mining engineers from all over the country, key personalities from the government and industry experts from the private sector gathered to participate in this prestigious event.
We were proud to exhibit our range of environmental and geotechnical solutions for the mining industry. In full support of MAEM’s commitment to responsible mining, Engr. Neil Clark P Esber, Maccaferri’s Business Development Manager for Mining delivered a technical presentation titled ‘Managing Topographic Instability in Mine Operations’. Neil discussed a number of innovative solutions to address environmental challenges throughout a mine’s lifecycle.
Our extensive engineering experience and expertise on erosion management, tailings containment, rockfall protection, and mine rehabilitation adheres to the administration’s directive of prioritizing environment and mine safety during operations – allowing the responsible utilization of our country’s mineral resources.
Our booth showcasing a wide range of products generated significant interest amongst industry players. Former Mines and Geosciences Bureau’s Director, Luis Jacinto visited the booth during the 3-day symposium.
On July 19-21, the 2nd Bicol Mining Summit under the auspices of the Philippine Society of Mining Engineers opened with a keynote address from the Director of the Philippine Government’s Mines and Geosciences Bureau, Atty. Wifredo G. Moncano. This annual event brings together mining professionals, government regulators and key industry players to discuss relevant issues and subjects concerning the mining industry. This year’s theme: ‘An Approach Towards Sustainable, Responsible, and Environment-Friendly Mineral Development in Bicol’ highlights discussions on recent government regulations, mining engineering law, professional development, and key technical discussions.
We participated by showcasing our technical expertise on erosion management and mine rehabilitation at the conference. Neil Esber again delivered a technical session on ‘Managing Erosion and Re-vegetation in Mine Operations’.
As well as being Maccaferri’s Business Development Manager for the Mining Sector, Neil is a co-founder of StandFIRM, (Stand FIRM: Filipinos for the Institution of Responsible Mining), StandFIRM is a proactive, youth-driven national coalition.
Backed by years of global experience, we are well-placed to provide solutions for challenges encountered during mine operations. Our engineers were on hand throughout the conference to discuss erosion control solutions and product applications within the mining industry.
