Maccaferri Terramesh was chosen to provide the solution for frequent landslides due to excessive forest encroachment
Maccaferri recently provided our Terramesh® System to solve the problem of landslides which took place at Jalan Kamunting, Cameron Highland. Landslides are frequent here due to excessive forest encroachment activity after heavy downpours. As a result, the Cameron Highlands District Council decided to seek advice and Maccaferri was chosen to provide the solution.
The Cameron Highlands is one of the leading highland retreats in Malaysia due to its unique environment and cool climate attracting tourists. However, being as one of the most extensive hills in Malaysia, both excessive forest encroachment and illegal land clearing has increased the risk of landslides and flash floods.
Recently a landslide took place at Jalan Kamunting, Cameron Highland on the main access route to a private villa. Boulders and wood were flushed down from the hill by a heavy downpour damaging one of the guest houses. In addition, debris from the hill created an obstacle for guests visiting the villa.
The Cameron Highland District Council had no option but to find an immediate solution to the problem so people were safe. We were asked to provide our best solution and after a thorough investigation, our Terramesh® system was chosen as the most suitable for the site. Terramesh is an economical, practical and reliable system.
The Terramesh wall allows the natural aesthetic to be retained because the system is able to blend in with the surrounding environment with minimal installation and appropriate materials.
