Our Gabions at the Prestigious SiLC Nusajaya development, Johor


Our gabions provided a functional yet aesthetic solution to a pond embankment protection

We have supplied polymer coated woven wire mesh gabions for the Southern Industrial and Logistics Clusters (SiLC) prestigious development in Nusajaya, Johor. Our gabions were used to create an embankment and toe protection for a pond. The client particularly appreciated the aesthetically pleasing and natural look of our solution.

Nusajaya is a township developed by the renowned UEM Sunrise Group which has won several awards for its inspiring architectural design, comprising the Johor State Government and Federal offices. SiLC is Nusajaya’s flagship industrial development. Known as SiLC Nusajaya, the development aims to help enhance businesses and enrich investments with thoroughly planned designs that meet the current environmentally sustainable development guidelines.

The area earmarked for the SiLC spans 1,300 acres to be developed in three phases, aiming to offer a world-class managed, clean and green industrial park. The project is estimated to be completed in 10 years’ time.

We were selected to be a part of this prestigious project as main gabion supplier for a designated phase in this project. Gabions were installed alongside a pond as an embankment and toe protection to prevent erosion. The gabion units prevent the action of the water in the lake, and any rainwater run-off from eroding the pond banks. Over time, the voids in the rock filled gabion units can sustain vegetation, further naturalising the appearance of the protection. Furthermore, the flexibility of the units means that the gabions can accommodate differential settlement of the pond banks without compromising the protecrtion function.

Our gabion baskets are made from high-quality steel wire which is heavily galvanized to provide long-term corrosion protection. An additional protective polymeric coating is also available for gabions that are to be used in more aggressive environments or where a longer design life is required such as in this project.

The client very much favored the flexible and aesthetic façade on the embankment compared to the other solutions considered.
