The project required the construction of a retention structure up to a maximum height of 20 meters for the bridge approaches and closing walls. The site presented multiple challenges, including founding strata composed of weak cohesive soil and the presence of a major river crossing. Moreover, the structure needed to withstand both static and seismic loads while ensuring long-term stability in a flood-prone environment.<\/p>\n\n<p>To overcome these challenges, Maccaferri\u2019s comprehensive solutions were adopted. Modular Terramesh\u00ae units with high-strength Paralink\u00ae geogrids as primary reinforcement were designed to create a flexible and monolithic reinforced soil wall system capable of accommodating differential settlement and ensuring uniform pressure distribution. Being an MNB structure, the retention design also accounted for the hydrological parameters of the river. Ground improvement was carried out through soil replacement and the installation of high-strength Paralink\u00ae geogrids, while Reno Mattresses provided robust protection against toe
