The 45th National Safety Week Celebration at the Maccaferri India Project sites expands the horizon of both employees and onsite workers.
The purpose of observing and celebrating the day is to renew our commitments towards safety in all spheres of life. A massive safety awareness campaign involving all employees and onsite workers has been organized directly on the worksite.
During the “National Safety Week” between the 14th-21st of March 2016 we analyzed several of our projects sites at Hindalco Muri, Gift City, MSRDC, & MCL Sinnar. The visits proved to be a good learning experience for all the project staff and workers.
The activities in Safety Week emphasized the basic importance and need for health and safety education. Significance was also placed on the importance of following safety guidelines in situ.
The event helped expose the involvement and enthusiasm of our on site staff. To elaborate further, after the Indian independence, there was rapid industrialization in our country which resulted in the setting up of many small and large scale industries with a large turnout of labour forces. As the industries grew, the labour force increased and the accident rate also unfortunately increased. Until that time, there was no Safety institution in our country to guide and advise the industries on matters of industrial safety, health and environment.
On 4th of March, 1966, the National Safety Council (NSC) was set up by the ministry of Labour, Government of India (GOI) as an autonomous body to generate, develop and sustain a voluntary movement on Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) at the National level. Later on, in the year 1972, the Government decided to use the 4th of March–i.e. the foundation day of the National Safety Council–as National Safety Day throughout the Country.
